VISA

The Government of the Republic of Indonesia has withdrawn the previous Visa Regulations
(the President’s Decree No. 18 of 2003) regarding the facility of Free Visa for Short Visit (BVKS)
granted to the nationals from 48 countries to enter Indonesia without visa for maximum 60 days
period of visit. The Indonesian Government based on the Indonesian President’s Decree No. 103
of 2003 dated December 17th, 2003, has instead issued the New Visa Regulations as follows:

 

A. Free Visa for Short Visit (BVKS)
  1. Based on reciprocity principles, the Government of the Republic of Indonesia grants
facility of “Free Entry Visa for a Short Visit” for he purposes of tourism, social cultural,
business or governmental visits to the nationals from 11 countries namely: Thailand,
Singapore, Malaysia, Philippine, Brunei Darussalam, Hong Kong Special
Administration Region, Macao Special Administration Region, Chile, Peru, Morocco
and Vietnam.
  2. The facility of the Free Visa for a Short Visit that allows the above-mentioned
nationals to stay not more than 30 days is unable to be extended except in the case
of emergency neither to be conversed to the other kind of stay permit.
  3. The said “Free Entry Visa for a Short Visit: is only granted to the above-mentioned
nationals whose travel document or passport is still valid minimum for six (6)
months, and enter Indonesia through the airports or seaports as mentioned-below:
       
    a. Airports
      - Polonia in Medan
      - Sultan Syarif Kasim II in Pekan Baru
      - Tebing in Padang
      - Soekarno-Hatta in Jakarta
      - Juanda in Surabaya
      - Ngurah Rai in Bali
      - Sam Ratulangi in Manado
       
    b. Seaports
      - Sekupang, Batu Ampar, Nongsa, and Marina Teluk Senimba in Batam
      - Bandar Bintan Telani Lagoi and Bandar Sri Udana Lobam in Tanjung Uban
      - Belawan in Belawan
      - Siboga in Sibolga
      - Yos Sudarso in Dumai
      - Teluk Bayur in Padang
      - Tanjung Priuk in Jakarta
      - Padang Bai in Bali
      - Jayapura in Jayapura
       
  4. The above-mentioned nationals who intend to stay for the duration of more than
30 days, have to apply the visa to the nearest Indonesian Embassies/Consulates.
   
B. Visa on Arrival (VOA)
  1. The Government of the Republic of Indonesia has also decided to grant the
facility of Visa on Arrival (VOA) for the purposes of tourism, social cultural, business
or governmental visits to the nationals from 21 countries namely: United States,
South African, Brazil, Emirate Arab. Hungry, Italy, German, South Korea, France,
Swiss, Australia, Argentina, Denmark, Finland, United Kingdom, Japan, Canada,
Norway, Poland, New Zealand, Taiwan.
  2. The facility of the Visa on Arrival (VOA) that allows the above-mentioned nationals
to stay not more than 30 days is unable to be extended except in the case of
emergency neither to be conversed to the other kind of stay permit.
  3. The Visa on Arrival (VOA) facility could only be granted to the above-mentioned
nationals whose travel document or passport is still valid minimum for six (6)
months, and enter Indonesia through the airports or seaports as mentioned-below :
       
    a. Airports
      - Polonia in Medan
      - Sultan Syarif Kasim II in Pekan Baru
      - Tebing in Padang
      - Soekarno-Hatta in Jakarta
      - Juanda in Surabaya
      - Ngurah Rai in Bali

C.

To all nationals/citizens that do not belong to any countries of point A or point B, have
to request visa to the nearest Indonesian Embassies/Consulates.

   
D.

The above-mentioned new regulations of Indonesian Visa (Free Entry Visa for a
Short Visit – BVKS and Visa on Arrival – VOA) have officially come into force as of
February 1st, 2004.

 
The decision of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia in issuing the above-
mentioned New Visa Regulations, is purely based on the principles of reciprocity.
 
   
 

VISA – FREE SHORT VISIT FOR TOURISTS

 

 

(As of February 1st, 2004)

In line with the Presidential Decision No. 103/2003, signed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia on 17th December 2003 regarding the new visa policy, as of February 1st, 2004, the following countries do not require a visa to enter Indonesia for visit up to 30 (thirty) days, are:

 

  1. Brunei Darussalam

  2. Chile

  3. Hong Kong SAR

  4. Macao SAR

  5. Malaysia

  6. Morocco

  7. Peru

  8. Philippines

  9. Singapore

  10. Thailand

  11. Vietnam

 

Visa-Free Short Visits may only be extended upon approval from the Minister of Justice and Human Rights/Director General of Immigration of the Republic of Indonesia based on natural disaster, illness or accident, but cannot be transferred to another type of visa. Overstay visitors incur to pay a penalty of US$20.- per day (for under 60 days stay) whilst over 60 days stay will be a 5 (five) year prison sentence or a fine of IDF25.000.000 (local currency).

 

Requirements

 

  1. Passport must be valid for a minimum of 6 (six) months as from the date of entry into Indonesia.

  2. Onward or return tickets are compulsory

  3. No compulsory vaccinations

  4. Visitors on Visa-Free Short Visits must be enter and exit from certain airports and seaports in Indonesia. There are 15 Airports and 21 seaports (plus 1 overland port) across Indonesia as follows :

These regulations do not apply for foreigners/expatriates (including members of their family) who are assigned/based in Indonesia. Visa is required and should be applied for.

 

PROCEDURES

 

 
  1. Applicants must hold a full passport which must be submitted upon request for inspection when applying for a visa.

  2. Passport must be valid for at least 6 (six) months from date of entry into Indonesia.

  3. Non-passport documents (such as Travel Documents, Certificate of Identity, Certificate of Registration etc.) will not be accepted.

  4. Applicants should fill in the correct visa forms according to the purpose of their visit, as once a visa is issued (stamped in the applicant’s passport), it cannot be cancelled or transferred to another type of visa under any circumstances.

  5. Please write clearly in capital letters. Illegibility may prevent your application from being processed.

  6. All questions must be answered, and all documents in support of an application submitted. Failure to do so may result in delay.

  7. Application forms must be original and personally signed by the applicant. Forms down loaded from the Embassy’s website must be printed double-sided as only a double-sided completed application is accepted.

  8. One recent passport-sized colour photograph of the applicant must be submitted with the application.

  9. All applications are subject to approval. Submission of a visa application does not necessarily mean that a visa will be granted.

  10. Applicants whose applications need referral to the Authorities in Indonesia should NOT purchase their travel tickets (plane, boat or otherwise) before the approval for their visa application is received.

  11. All visa applications must be submitted between 10.00am and 1.00pm, Mondays to Fridays (except on Indonesian and Suriname public holidays) through the Visa Section of the Indonesian Embassy at Van Brussellaan 3, Uitvlught, Paramaribo.

  12. If granted, visa can be collected within two to three working days, between 2.00pm and 4.00pm.

  13. The granting of a visa is, in effect, only a form of pre-entry clearance. It does not grant permission to enter Indonesia. The Indonesian Immigration authorities at the port of entry reserve the right to refuse entry into Indonesia.

  14. All applicants must reside in Suriname and Guyana.

  15. All visa regulations are strictly adhered to for the good of each and every individual who wishes to visit Indonesia, in order to prevent any problems and complications with regard to their entry into Indonesia.

  16. Due to the fact that Indonesia and Israel do not, at present, share diplomatic relations, nationals and passport holders of Israel are unfortunately unable to enter the Republic of Indonesia as a tourist or otherwise without special authorisation from the Immigration Office. Therefore, all such applications have to be sent to the Immigration Office in Indonesia.

  17. All visitors, regardless their nationality, who wish to travel to Papua and Poso must obtain special permission and approval. They must obtain special authorization from Indonesian authorities. Visitors who enter these areas without permission are subject to arrest and detention and will be prosecuted according to Indonesian law.

  18. It is most desirous that any traveller to Indonesia understands and duly respects the Indonesian Immigration’s regulations as well as the Embassy’s rules.

 

 
  1. This visa is given by the Indonesian Embassy to applicants visiting Indonesia for normal business activities (including attending a conference/seminar) which do not involve taking up employment or receiving any payments whilst in Indonesia.

  2. Type of entries :

 

  1. Single Entry :

  • Maximum length of stay is 60 days

  • Extensions can be applied for and obtained in Indonesia from the Immigration Authorities.

  1. Multiple Entries :

  • Issued upon authorization of the Immigration Office in Indonesia.

Note:

  • It is suggested that the applicant's counterpart in Indonesia should apply locally on his/her behalf

  • Based on a written approval from the Immigration Authority, the applicant will then apply for the issuance of visa by submitting the required documents stated below

  • Valid for up to 12 (twelve) months.

  • Applicant's business sponsor in Indonesia needs to apply locally or his/her behalf.

  • Applies for business purposes only.

  1. Validity of visa will be three months from the date of issue.

  2. To return the passport by post, a Self Addressed Special Delivery Envelope should be provided.

  3. Visa is issued within five to six working days from receipt of application providing all documents are in order.

 

Required documents which should be submitted are as follow :

  • Passport (with a minimum validity of 6 months from the date of entry into Indonesia)

  • One completed visa application form

  • Two coloured passport size photographs

  • Evidence that the applicant has sufficient funds to cover the cost of applicant's intended stay in Indonesia (Bank Statement dated less than a month or traveller's cheques)

Together with :

For business

  • Two supporting letters, each from the applicant’s firm in Suriname/Guyana and sponsor/counterpart in Indonesia setting out the reason and duration of the proposed visit, and responsibility for accommodation/maintenance costs.

  • Copy of written approval from the Immigration Office in Indonesia should the duration of business is to exceed 60 days.

To attend a conference/seminar

  • A letter/invitation from the conference host setting out details, including nature, duration and programme of the conference/seminar.

Fees (which must be paid either in cash or postal order only) :

Single Entry : US$ 35.00
- Multiple Entry : US$ 75.00

 

Fees are non-refundable under any circumstances.

Holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports are exempt from the mentioned fees.

 

 
  1. This visa is issued by the Indonesian Embassy to applicants who are going to Indonesia for a social/cultural visit, such as visiting relatives/friends; social organizations; exchange visits between educational institutions; undertaking research and attending training programme in Indonesia.

  2. Type of entry : Single Entry

  • Maximum length of stay is 60 days.

  • Extensions can be applied for and obtained in Indonesia from the Immigration Authorities.

 

  1. Approval from the Immigration Office in Indonesia is needed for applicants who wish to stay longer than 60 days which must be applied for by the applicant’s sponsor/relative/friends who reside/base in Indonesia. Visa will only be issued by the Embassy after receiving the authorization direct from the Immigration office in Indonesia.

  2. A person granted a student, research or training visa is not permitted to take up employment, and may not remain in Indonesia for any purpose other than that for which the visa was granted.

  3. Multiple entries need special permit from the Immigration Office in Indonesia.

  4. Validity of visa will be three months from the date of issue.

  5. To return the passport by post, a Self Addressed Special delivery Envelope should be provided.

  6. Visa is issued within five to six working days from receipt of application provided all documents are in order.

 

Required documents which should be submitted are as follow :

  • Passport (with a minimum validity of 6 months from the date of entry into Indonesia)

  • One completed visa application form

  • Two coloured passport size photographs

  • Evidence that the applicant has sufficient funds to cover the cost of applicant's intended stay in Indonesia (Bank Statement dated less than a month with a minimum balance of Ł1,000.- or traveller's cheque).

  • Evidence of obligation in the applicant’s country of permanent residence (e.g. a letter from employer/ college/ school, certifying the applicant’s intention to return after the visit to Indonesia).

  • Written approval from the Immigration Office in Indonesia should the durationf visit is to exceed 60 days.

Together with :

For visiting relatives/friends/social organizations

 

  • A letter of invitation from the applicant’s family/relatives/friends/social organizations in Indonesia, and copy of their passport (main details only) or ID (KTP).

  • Evidence of sufficient funds or a third party letter guaranteeing to support the applicant financially during his/her stay, together with documentary evidence of ability to do so.

 

For study/training/research

 

  • A letter of registration from the institution/college/school in Indonesia verifying the duration and nature of the course, training or research.

  • Evidence that all the necessary fees have been paid in advance. If the applicant is on a scholarship/award programme, a statement/letter of confirmation from the sponsor(s)/awardees is required.

 

Fee (which must be paid either in cash or postal order) for up to 60 days maximum period of stay is US$ 35.00.-, which is non-refundable under any circumstances.

Fees for visa applications that need to be referred for approval/authorization will depend on the length of stay granted by the Immigration Office in Indonesia.

 

 
  1. This visa is also call a Temporary Stay Permit and is issued to applicants whose purpose of visit is to stay in Indonesia for a limited period.

  2. Type of entry : Single Entry for up to twelve months (issue upon authorisation from Immigration Office in Indonesia).

  3. Validity of visa will be three months from the date of issue.

  4. To return the passport by post, a Self Addressed Special Delivery Envelope should be provided.

  5. Visa is issued within five to six working days from receipt of application.

 

 

Required documents which should be submitted are as follow :

 

  • Passport (with a minimum validity of 18 months from the date of entry into Indonesia)

  • One completed visa application form

  • Two coloured passport size photographs

  • A written approval from the Immigration Office in Indonesia

  • A letter of invitation/support from the applicant’s sponsors

  • Evidence of sufficient funds to maintain oneself whilst staying in Indonesia (e.g. a recent Bank Statement, etc.) or a third party letter guaranteeing to support the applicant financially during his/her stay, together with documentary evidence of ability to do so.

  • Evidence of obligation in the applicant’s country of permanent residence (e.g. a letter from employer/ College, certifying the applicant’s intention to return after the visit to Indonesia).

 

The Fee for a visit of up to twelve months will be US$ 100.00.- which is non-refundable under any circumstances and payable only in cash or postal order.

 
 
  1. Nationals of countries not included in the list of the 11 countries that are eligible for Visa-Free visits must have a visa to enter Indonesia and should submit their application accordingly.

  2. National of certain countries can either get a Visa on Arrival (VOA) upon arrival in Indonesia, which length of stay may not exceed 30 (thirty) days and cannot be extended / transfer, or apply at the Indonesian Embassy to stay longer than thirty days.

  3. Visa issued at the Embassy has a maximum length of stay is 60 (sixty) days, and cannot be extended / transfer.

  4. Tourist visa application from certain nationals would need to be referred to the Immigration Office in Indonesia (see various visas issued on Approval). This process can take up to two months before a decision is made and the visa is granted.

  5. Type of entry : Single Entry only.

  6. To return the passport by post, a Self-Addressed Special Delivery Envelope should be provided.

  7. Visa is issued within five to six working days from receipt of application.

 

 Required documents which should be submitted are as follow :

 

  • Passport (with a minimum validity of 6 months from the date of entry into Indonesia) with blank pages to affix the visa sticker

  • One completed visa application form

  • Two coloured passport size photographs

  • Must be Suriname and Guyana resident

  • Travel itinerary (proof of booking), including details of onward or return journey

  • Hotel Reservation (if applicable)

  • Bank Statement dated less than a month with a minimum balance of US$ 1,000.-

  • A recent letter (less than 1 month old) from applicant's employer. If self employed, a confirmation letter from applicant's solicitor, or accountant, or Bank Manager. For a student, submit confirmation letter of attendance from school, college or university. "au pair" or domestic help will have to show employer's passport and submit copy of the said passport and letter from employee. All of the above type of letters must certify the applicant's obligation to return after the visit to Indonesia

  • Written approval from the Immigration Office in Indonesia (only for applications that need referral to the Authorities in Indonesia)

 

The Fee for a visit of up to sixty days will be US$ 35.00.- which is non-refundable under any circumstances and payable in cash or postal order only.

 
 
  1. Required by all nationals.

  2. This visa is given to persons continuing their journey to another country within a reasonable time provided they hold valid and confirmed tickets / documents to travel to their next destination.

  3. A transit visa is also required by persons joining or working on a transport vehicle that will continue its journey outside Indonesian territory. Applicants in this category must have proof of a work contract pertaining to that effect.

  4. Validity of visa will be three months from the date of issue and the maximum length of stay is 14 (fourteen) days from the date of arrival in Indonesia.

  5. Type of entry : Single Entry only.

  6. If passport is required to be returned by post, a Self-Addressed Special Delivery Envelope should be provided.

  7. Visa is issued within five to six working days from receipt of application.

 

Required documents which should be submitted are as follow :

 

  • Passport (with a minimum validity of 6 months from the date of entry into Indonesia)

  • One completed visa application form

  • Two coloured passport size photographs

  • Proof of a work contract/ a letter of recommendation from the applicant’s firm in UK and its counterpart in Indonesia (see the above point 3)

  • Valid and confirmed tickets and other documents to travel to the applicant’s next destination

  • Evidence of sufficient funds to maintain oneself whilst staying in Indonesia (e.g. a recent Bank Statement, etc.) or a third party letter guaranteeing to support the applicant financially during his/her stay, together with documentary evidence of ability to do so.

 

The Fee for a visit of up to 14 (fourteen) days will be US$ 15.00.- which is non-refundable under any circumstances and payable in cash or postal order only.

 

 
 

All visa applications for Business, Tourist and Social Visits from nationals of the following countries need an approval from Immigration Office in Indonesia before traveling.

The requirements vary depending on the propose visit to Indonesia. Therefore, applicants should refer to the type of visa that suits the purpose of their visit and add the following :

 

  • A recent Bank Statement with a minimum balance of US$ 1,000.-

  • Allow four to six weeks before the Embassy receives the decision of the referral application from the authorities in Indonesia.

  • DO NOT purchase any airline tickets before the visa is granted.

  • Visa is issued within five to six working days from receipt of application provided all documents are in order.

 

Business/Social Visits

 

Visa must be applied for by the applicant’s sponsors/counterparts/relatives/friends who reside in Indonesia. Visa will only be issued by the Embassy after receiving written authorization direct from the Immigration Office in Indonesia.

 

Tourist Visit

 

  • Applications will be referred to the Authorities in Indonesia through the Embassy.

  • Upon application, copies of passport, showing details of bearer’s and Suriname and Guyana stay permit must be submitted.

  • Upon receiving the written approval, notification to the applicant will be made either by phone or letter. Otherwise, applicants may call the visa section to find out if the approval has arrived.

  • Applicants will then submit their passport so the necessary visa can be processed.

 

The Fee for a visit of up to sixty days will be US$ 35.00.- which is non-refundable under any circumstances and payable in cash or postal order only.

 

Fees for a visit greater than sixty days will depend on the length of stay granted by the Immigration Office in Indonesia.
